Head of Commercial - Higher Education

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will provide financial and commercial support to the Higher Education and Canada businesses within the Academic division of OUP - working effectively as part of the Finance team, the Division and across the wider OUP group.

You will be responsible for delivery of financial results, working with the management team to ensure results are delivered for the financial year, tracking and understanding risks and putting mitigation plans in place, strategic analysis, providing financial analysis to help business set strategy, including appropriate allocation of resources and targeted investment and budgeting and forecasting, leading on the budget, forecast and 5 Year Plan process. You will need to have a clear understanding of how financials will be delivered - understanding and evaluating risks.

Additionally, you will be responsible for commercial support, ensuring decisions are taken with sound commercial judgement and analysis, including investment appraisals, publishing plans and product development, major product launches ensure tracking mechanisms and governance in place to help ensure return on investment, and business & market analysis, performing ad-hoc business analysis to aid effective decision making.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified ACA (or CIMA / ACCA) ideally with experience in commercial or business partnering role.
  • Initiative and ability to successfully implement new ideas, with drive to push through.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Outgoing, persuasive and a good communicator with an ability to communicate complex financial matters in a way that is understood at all levels.
  • Have the ability to manage a complex workload with multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience of data analysis, interpretation, reconciliation, and presentation
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred). Experience of systems transition a bonus.
  • Discrete and trustworthy
  • A good team player
  • Willingness to travel to UK/USA/Canada when required.
